Come and see one of the most beautiful and fascinating areas of Britain’s East coast; Norfolk is a county of renowned scenic splendour, rich in historical treasures and abundant in wildlife. It is an area of picturesque country lanes, flint cottages, and steam railways. The arteries of an industrial age now past, the miles of waterways that make up the stunning Norfolk Broads provide a unique backdrop. Home to a coastline of unspoilt, award-winning beaches, as we head in-land we will witness first-hand the rich agricultural roots as well as market towns and villages; there are eateries, local artisan shops, museums, and stately homes in abundance. Norfolk is also home to much of The Broads National Park, Britain’s largest protected wetland, salt marshes, and nature reserves; of international importance, it is a haven for wildlife and birds, and a delight for ramblers.

Our base for our holiday is Cromer; once a small fishing village it is now a bustling, family holiday resort. Attractive and full of character, Cromer’s narrow twisting streets in the town centre, colourful gardens, sandy beach and lively seafront promenade all make for a lovely holiday destination. The Virginia Court Hotel is in a quiet tree-lined avenue just three minutes’ walk from Cromer town centre, the seafront and pier. This stylish hotel offers a very pleasant lounge bar and restaurant and all bedrooms are en-suite and have a TV and courtesy tea tray. Please note that this hotel does not have a lift.

TUESDAY

We depart Macclesfield calling for coffee en-route to Spalding where we call for lunch. There will be free time for a browse and a leisurely lunch before we continue across country to Cromer and our hotel for the next five nights.

WEDNESDAY

We make our way to beautiful Wells-next-the-Sea for morning coffee and a stroll around the town, quay and harbour. We then continue our journey through the stunning Norfolk countryside to Walsingham; steeped in history with a long tradition of religious pilgrimage, it is home to the ruins of two medieval monastic houses and famed for the Anglican Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham. After a pleasant stroll we re-board the coach and make our way back to the hotel so that you have the remainder of the day to spend at leisure.

THURSDAY

After breakfast we begin our day out at Sandringham House and Gardens. Well known as the beloved private country home of Queen Elizabeth II, it is where the Windsor’s famously spend their Christmases. From its tidal mudflats and fruit farms to the brilliant museum and gardens, Sandringham is a dynamic estate that has seen many a royal occasion. With ample time to visit the house, grounds and enjoy a spot of lunch, the day promises to be a rather royal affair.

FRIDAY

Today we venture to Felbrigg Hall, one of the most elegant country houses in East Anglia. A mixture of opulence and homeliness, each room reflects Felbrigg’s vibrant history. Outside, the decorative and productive walled garden is a horticulturalist’s delight. Home-grown flowers decorate the Hall, whilst the kitchen garden provides fruit and vegetables for the Squire’s Pantry. (NT Members: Free; Non-members approx. £15.00) For our afternoon we head to Wroxham for a relaxing boat trip on the fabulous Norfolk Broads. A full commentary from the skipper ensures you don’t miss a thing, covering the Broads’ history, identifying points of interest along the way, and showing you the abundance of local water birds as they come into view. There is no better way to learn about the Broads and it’s beautiful scenery.

SATURDAY

A free day for you to explore the many delights of Cromer. Delve into the town centre or take a stroll on the pier and see the lively seafront promenade behind the sandy beach. Colourful gardens offer quieter relaxation but if you’re feeling energetic there are also leisure facilities available including bowling greens, tennis courts, squash and golf. The choice is yours!

SUNDAY

As we make our way homeward we make a stop for morning coffee. We continue our journey west making the historic town of Grantham our lunch stop, giving you plenty of time for a browse and lunch. We then continue home and aim to arrive early evening.
