History

Our First CoachRoy McCarthy Coaches was originally set up by Roy with a single coach in 1971. Previously he worked for Fred Lomas Coaches while his wife Margaret ran a small grocery shop in Hurdsfield.

Roy and Margaret’s son Andy joined the business in 1981 and with help from sisters Chris and Sue, brother-in-law Mick, wife Lynda and dependable staff developed the company into what it is today. In 2012 we went into our third generation with Andy and Lynda’s sons Danny and Max Joining the company full time.

The company is still based in Macclesfield but now have a fleet of 11 modern, clean and reliable coaches ranging from 29 to 70 seats in size, including executive models with on-board drinks facilities and washroom.

Whilst the coach industry has changed dramatically over the years here at McCarthy’s we have remained essentially a family run business and offer a professional yet personal and friendly service from our management, office staff and drivers.

We have a lot of knowledge and experience in planning, organising and providing group travel from private tours abroad to local school trips. We run our own extensive tours and day trips which are very popular and provide dependable bespoke home to school transport.

Roy McCarthy Coaches are a member of the Confederation of Passenger Transport,to ensure that we are up to date with current developments within the industry and regularly attend their meetings. We are also a member of the Bonded Coach Holiday Scheme, which means your money is protected by a government approved scheme specifically for coach package holidays. Therefore in the (very!) unlikely event that we cease trading you are guaranteed repayment of monies paid. It also ensures the completion of your holiday if it has already started.
