The Isle of Wight is one of the most picturesque of Britain’s smaller islands, just five miles from the south coast and a popular holiday destination. The island contains a wonderful mixture of bustling resorts, glorious countryside, small quaint villages, and a stunning coastline.

This year our tour is based at The Warner Bembridge Coast Hotel. A modern establishment it sits quietly on a secluded eastern shore of the Isle of Wight just metres from the lapping, glistening Solent. With its 23 acres of grounds, its famously landscaped Spanish Gardens and its marvellous sea views, Bembridge Coast is the ideal place from which to explore. Amenities include a modern dining room, bar and entertaining lounge where you can enjoy a fun filled evening with fabulous team shows, comedians and resident band. There are indoor and outdoor bowls and an indoor leisure complex with pool, sauna and steam room. All bedrooms offer modern en-suite facilities with TV and courtesy tea trays.

MONDAY

We depart Macclesfield calling for coffee and lunch en-route to Portsmouth where we board the ferry for our crossing to the Isle of Wight. We arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

TUESDAY

Today we will meet our guide for a full day tour of the Island. We will see the wonderful beaches and dramatic cliff faces that have drawn tourists since the Victorian Era. We will have time to visit the famous Needles and some of the Island’s towns, stopping for coffee and lunch throughout our day; this really is the ideal and most leisurely way to explore!

WEDNESDAY

With a free day for you to spend as you please, why not take advantage of the many facilities available at the hotel? Alternatively, use the local bus to visit Sandown with its traditional British seafront and pier.

THURSDAY

We begin today with a visit to Ventnor Botanical Garden; lying at the heart of a remarkable microclimate on the south coast of the Isle of Wight, it is surrounded by the chalk downs of the Ventnor Undercliff and boasts an impressive collection of rare and exotic fauna. Around lunchtime we make our way to Shanklin, one of the oldest resorts on the island, for lunch and a stroll. Shanklin’s village boasts picturesque craft and gift shops, the public gardens are worth a visit and the famous Chine with its 45-foot waterfall is well worth a look.

FRIDAY

You have the option to spend today at your leisure or instead join us on a visit to Osbourne House, the former Royal Residence of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert. We venture firstly to St Mildred’s Church where Queen Victoria would frequent when she was in residence. Then we make our way to Osborne House itself; rural and peaceful, the royal family spent some of their happiest of times here. (English Heritage Members Free; Non-members £22.00).

SATURDAY

This morning we make the short journey to Ryde to explore this seaside town with its fine Georgian and Victorian architecture, grand esplanade and attractive hidden sea front. We have time for lunch before we board the Isle of Wight Steam Railway for a 10-mile ride on a majestic steam locomotive through the Island’s stunning countryside. We will have time to visit the museum, the train story discovery centre and the shop.

SUNDAY

A day at leisure for you to spend as you please, why not take advantage of the many facilities available at the hotel and join in one or two activities?

MONDAY

We depart after breakfast and take the ferry back to the mainland. Stopping for lunch enroute we aim to arrive in the Macclesfield area early evening.
