Staying at the Stratford Manor Hotel
2 DAYS | 6th May 2022
Back by popular demand! We venture once again to the RHS Great Malvern Spring Gardening Show. Set amongst the beautiful Malvern Hills, this really is an event to delight all. You can meander around the stunning collection of show gardens, lose yourself in the floral marquee and pick up tips from the experts. The show brings together inspirational ideas and practical tips, and makes for a fantastic visit.
During our short break we also visit Winterbourne House and Garden, a rare surviving example of an early 20th century suburban villa and garden. The house was built in 1903 for John and Margaret Nettlefold. It was originally designed as a small country estate with rustic outbuildings and large gardens, Winterbourne followed the style of the Arts and Crafts movement with examples of local craftsmanship throughout the house. Margaret Nettlefold designed the garden, inspired by the books and garden designs of Gertrude Jekyll. After a period of restoration, the garden was Grade II listed by English Heritage in 2008. Bequeathed to the University, the garden became the University’s Botanic Garden and new areas for teaching and plant conservation were developed within the historic layout. The garden today is still used by students but is also open to the public to be enjoyed by everyone.
Our base for the tour is the Stratford Manor Hotel, situated in 21 acres of beautiful Warwickshire countryside and just a short drive from Stratford-upon-Avon. The 4 * hotel features the Shakespeare Restaurant and the Terrace Lounge bar for you to enjoy, as well as leisure facilities including an indoor swimming pool. The bedrooms boast modern décor, private bathrooms, TV and WiFi access.
We depart Macclesfield calling for coffee enroute to arrive at Winterbourne House and Gardens around lunch time. After free time for lunch in the café we will have a guided tour of the garden. When finished, the gardens are yours to explore at your leisure before we take the short journey to Stratford upon Avon and our hotel.
After breakfast we make the quick trip to Great Malvern and to the Great Malvern Spring Gardening Show. We aim to arrive as the show opens giving you most of the day to spend at leisure. Mid to late afternoon we join the motorway network and head for home, aiming to arrive in the Macclesfield area early evening.
