Cornwall: A Relaxing Luxury Break in Falmouth – The 4* Royal Duchy Hotel

Staying at the Royal Duchy Hotel

6 DAYS | 1st May 2022

Cornwall is the most south westerly county in England and is famous for its dramatic coastline, gorgeous gardens, spectacular sandy beaches, quaint coastal towns, historic fishing harbours and the sparkling blue sea that encloses the majority of the county. Together with the mild climate and spectacular landscape, it really is a wonderful holiday destination! Falmouth, our base for the tour, is Cornwall’s leading south coast resort and home to the area’s maritime heritage. A flourishing port for over 400 years, today it is a bustling town with many attractions offering something for everyone!

An impressive 4* luxury hotel with a perfect view of an azure bay, the Royal Duchy Hotel is just yards from the safe sandy beaches and quaint alleyways of Falmouth. Set in beautifully manicured gardens the hotel has views from its spacious terrace that will take your breath away. With a wonderfully glamorous bar, we can also look forward to fine dining in the award-winning restaurant. Right by the sea the hotel boasts all the facilities you could ask for, including a heated indoor pool, spa and wellness centre. The elegantly furnished ensuite bedrooms are bright, modern and well equipped. The hotel also has a lift.

SUNDAY
We depart Macclesfield calling for coffee enroute to Congresbury and the brilliant garden centre where we call for lunch. We then continue our journey south to Falmouth and our hotel.

MONDAY
This morning we visit Trelissick Gardens with its stunning maritime views and lovely woodland walks. Discover the exotic plants and herbaceous borders bursting with colour as you explore the meandering paths. Trelissick has its own art gallery run by Cornwall Crafts Association and showcases a wide range of work from local Cornish artists. No visit would be complete without calling for morning coffee at Crofters café. After our visit we return to Falmouth for a leisurely afternoon. (NT Members free, non-members approx. £14.00).

TUESDAY
A day at leisure to enjoy Falmouth. Why not take a stroll around the shops, visit the Maritime museum, take a boat trip up the river or just sit and relax in the hotel gardens with a cocktail?

WEDNESDAY
Taking the scenic route today we head to the Cornwall Gold and Tolgus Mill, located in the heart of Cornwall’s traditional mining district and once an important part of this thriving industry. We have time for a browse and morning coffee before we continue on to St Erth Station where we board the train for St Ives. One of the most scenic lines in Britain, the scenery is spectacular as we pass the golden sands of Hayle, Towans and Carbis Bay before arriving in St Ives. There will be time for lunch and to meander around the quaint streets before we re-board the train for the journey back to St Erth, where the coach will be waiting to take you back to Falmouth and our hotel.

THURSDAY
Our excursion today takes us to the great little city of Truro with its historic architecture, delightful parks, local independent shops and market stalls. Truro is a criss-cross of cobbled roads and magical mews, and there are always rewards for the curious explorer! We spend the morning in Truro and then take a scenic run to St. Mawes where we stop for afternoon refreshments, then it’s all aboard the Fal Ferry across the river and back to Falmouth. The coach will meet you in Falmouth and take you the short journey back to the hotel.

FRIDAY
After breakfast we head for home calling enroute for coffee and lunch. We aim to arrive in the Macclesfield area early evening.

Tour includes: 5 nights dinner, bed and breakfast; return train ride to St. Ives and Fal Ferry River Crossing.
