The Isle of Anglesey & the Snowdon Mountain Railway

Staying at The Celtic Royal Hotel

3 DAYS | 3rd September 2021

This delightful tour gives you the opportunity to experience the magic of Wales by both coach and train. A land of song, choirs, castles, Celtic history, and stunning countryside, this really is a place of outstanding natural beauty. We visit the fascinating village of Portmerion, the beautiful Isle of Anglesey with its hidden garden Plas Cadnant and the highlight of the weekend a trip to the top of Mount Snowdon, an absolutely fantastic adventure.

The Celtic Royal Hotel is situated just a ten minute stroll from Caernarfon’s walled town, harbour and castle. The hotel features a brasserie, restaurant, lounge bar, leisure club with indoor pool, sauna and steam room and free WiFi. The bright and airy bedrooms all feature tea and coffee facilities, a TV, and a private bathroom.

We depart Macclesfield in the morning calling for coffee en-route to Portmeirion; set in stunning sub-tropical Italianate gardens it was created by Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis from 1925 to 1976. He wanted to show how a naturally beautiful site could be developed without spoiling it. During our visit you can enjoy a complimentary guided walking tour, watch the audio-visual show and take a trip on the free land train tour of the Gwyllt woodlands. There are plenty of places for lunch and an afternoon cuppa. Late-afternoon we take the short journey to Caernarfon and our hotel.

This morning we take the quick journey to Llanberis for our trip on the Snowdon Mountain Railway, the incredible journey to the rooftop of Wales. Hafod Eryri is the Visitor Centre at the summit of Snowdon and there is a refreshment area selling snacks and drinks as well as a shop selling souvenirs. After our amazing train journey we have time for lunch and to visit Llanberis Slate Museum before we head back to the hotel.

After a leisurely breakfast we venture across the Menai Straight to the Isle of Anglesey. We start with a scenic run calling at Beaumaris for an early lunch, where there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and pubs to choose from. To complete our tour we visit Plas Cadnant Hidden Gardens; in 1996 the present owner bought the 200 acre estate and the work began on the historic gardens, a spectacular transformation has ensued and its former glory restored. Upon arrival we have a brief introduction and then free time to admire the gardens at leisure. We complete our tour with tea and cake before heading for home. Making a comfort stop along the way and aim to be back in the Macclesfield area early evening.

Tour includes: Luxury coach travel throughout, two nights dinner, bed and breakfast, ticket for the Snowdon Mountain Railway and entrance to Portmeirion and Plas Cadnant with tea/ coffee and cake.
