Salisbury Spires & The Solent

Staying at the 4* Norton Park Hotel

4 DAYS | 17th June 2021

Join us on our exciting new tour to the beautiful Cathedral city of Salibury! Both a geographical marvel, as a meeting point of four river valleys, and a success of medieval architectural planning, Salisbury has many a famous landmark and modern amenity to enjoy. The cathedral spire is the graceful centrepiece of a unified city in which buildings of all styles blend harmoniously, from medieval houses, historic inns and market places to stately pedimented Georgian houses and even a modern shopping centre. Our excursion also takes us to Southampton; both the famous Solent (the strait that separates the Isle of Wight from the mainland of England) and rich seafaring history make Southampton a visit not to be missed.

Our base for the tour is the 4* Norton Park Hotel, set in 54 acres of parkland and ideally located for all our excursions. Featuring a relaxed and informal bar and restaurant, there is also a spa with a leisure club. All the bedrooms are spacious and modern as well as en-suite.

We depart Macclesfield calling for coffee en-route to the delightful city of Winchester where we will have time to take a stroll around the historic centre and browse the shops and cathedral. Late afternoon we take the short journey to our hotel where dinner and the evening are yours to spend at leisure.

Today we meet our guide for a tour of the seafaring port of Southampton and its rich nautical history. We then have free time for lunch before we board the Blue Funnel boat for a leisurely cruise around Southampton harbour and along the Solent. Used for port by many an impressive cruise and cargo ship from all around the world, the Solent is a very busy stretch of water so there is always something to see!

We begin our day with a visit to Salisbury and the famous Cathedral; formally known as the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary it is an Anglican cathedral and regarded as one of the leading examples of early English Gothic architecture. Having enjoyed morning coffee upon arrival we will then have a guided tour. Afterwards there will be free time to explore Salisbury at your leisure. We return to the hotel mid-afternoon with time for a dip in the pool before dinner.

We depart the hotel after breakfast and head north to Waterperry Gardens. The gardens were made famous by Beatrix Havergal who established her School of Horticulture for Ladies here from 1932 to 1971, and it is now home to eight acres of beautifully landscaped ornamental gardens, a quality plant centre, gift shop, museum and cafe. Early afternoon we continue north making a quick comfort stop en-route and aim to arrive in the Macclesfield area around teatime.

Tour includes: Luxury coach travel throughout, 3 nights dinner bed and breakfast, guide for tour of Southampton and boat trip. Entrance and morning coffee at Salisbury Cathedral and entrance to Waterperry Gardens.
