Somerset Carnivals & Longleat for The Festival of Light

Staying at The Swan Hotel in Wells

3 DAYS | 8th November 2020

Join us for a long weekend and launch your winter festivities in style! The famous Longleat House and Safari Park celebrate the season with its fantastic Festival of Light, as well as its Enchanted Christmas Tree Show and winter safari. Then there is the highlight of our tour: Somerset’s Electric Light Carnival Parade. This spectacular illuminated event showcases music, dancers and hundreds of magnificent floats all aglow with the lights from thousands of coloured bulbs. With these two truly unmissable events, what better way is there to get in the Christmas spirit?

Our base for the tour is The Swan Hotel in Wells, a 15th-century former coaching inn. A quaint hotel it is a mere three minute walk from the grand 12th-century Wells Cathedral and a four minute walk from the medieval Bishop’s Palace and Gardens. As well as a lovely restaurant and cosy bar, there is an exercise room and a sauna to relax in after a fun-filled day. All bedrooms feature modern en suite bathrooms, free WiFi, a TV, and tea and coffee making facilities.

SUNDAY
Departing Macclesfield slightly later than usual we make our way to Longleat. Having made a comfort stop en route we aim to arrive around midday, so you will have free time for lunch and to visit the house. Mid-afternoon we board the coach for a trip through the wonderful safari park. Then its time for the Festival of Light, and you will have ample opportunity for a stroll around this fascinating sight. We then take the short journey to our hotel to arrive in time for dinner.

MONDAY
Enjoy a morning at leisure in the historic city of Wells. Why not visit the Cathedral or the local museum, take a stroll around the shops or sample some of the cuisine in the local eateries? We have an early dinner before we board the coach for the short journey to Burnham-on-Sea to take our places for the Electric Light Carnival Parade. What began as part of the Guy Fawkes commemorations in the nearby town of Bridgewater, the carnival is now a dazzling display of music and pageantry for everyone to enjoy!

TUESDAY
We say a sad farewell to Somerset and head for home. Taking the scenic route home through the Cotswolds, we will call at Evesham Country Park for lunch. Rejoining the motorway network and making a comfort stop en route we aim to arrive in the Macclesfield area around tea time.

Tour includes: 2 nights dinner, bed and breakfast and entrance to Longleat.
