Staying at The Johnstown House Hotel & The Falls Hotel
6 DAYS | 17th May 2020
Come and escape with us to the stunning west coast of Ireland; a region rich in ancient traditions and natural rural splendour, windswept mountains, stone walls and peat bogs. We will visit the ancient monument of Bunratty Castle, explore Galway, Capital of Culture 2020 and head across the bay to Inis Oirr, the largest of the Aran Islands.
We travel across Ireland with a refreshing overnight stop at The Johnstown House Hotel in Enfield. We then continue on to The Falls Hotel; beside the River Inagh, this former manor house has been equipped with pure comfort in mind. All bedrooms are en suite with modern facilities including hospitality tea trays.
We depart Macclesfield and head for Holyhead and our ferry to Dublin. We then continue across Ireland to our overnight stop at The Johnstown House Hotel for dinner, bed and breakfast.
After a leisurely start we continue our journey to Galway. We will have free time for lunch in Galway before we meet our guide for a tour of this splendid city. Known as the ‘City of the Tribes’ we will take in panoramic views, explore the history, the Nordic architecture, Blackrock diving tower and Claddagh Village.
A relaxing day today we take the scenic route along the Wild Atlantic Way to the little seaside resort of Kilkee where we make a short photo stop, we then continue on to Killrush, one of Ireland’s Heritage towns situated at the mouth of the River Shannon. We have time for an early lunch and a browse before we make our way down the coast to the hotel, arriving early afternoon giving you time to explore Galway.
Today our tour takes us across to the stunning Aran Islands. Departing Doolin Pier a short boat trip takes you to Inis Oirr, overlooking the stunning cliffs of Moher. Upon arrival we board a pony and trap for an informative tour of the island, and afterwards we have a delightful lunch of soup and a sandwich at a local hotel. Our return boat trip takes us via the cliffs for a closer look at this wonderful spectacle of nature.
Today we visit the pretty town of Ennis, situated at the heart of the county. Ennis is the capital of County Clare and is certainly one of the most characterful and picturesque spots, with its narrow, winding streets, historical buildings and busy market town atmosphere. We then continue on to the wonderful Bunratty Castle and Folk Park. Set in 26 acres, the impressive park features over 30 buildings in a ‘living’ village, and makes for a fascinating afternoon.
We depart after breakfast and head for Dublin for our ferry crossing to Holyhead. We take the quickest route home making a short comfort stop en route aiming to arrive in the Macclesfield area early evening.
