Great Malvern Spring Gardening Show & The Asparagus Tour

Staying at The Salford Hall Hotel

2 DAYS | 7th May 2020

Back by popular demand! We venture once again to the RHS Great Malvern Spring Gardening Show. Set amongst the beautiful Malvern Hills, this really is an event to delight all. You can meander around the stunning collection of show gardens, lose yourself in the floral marquee and pick up tips from the experts. The show brings together inspirational ideas and practical tips, and makes for a fantastic visit.

During our short break we also have a unique asparagus experience through the Vale of Evesham. The Vale of Evesham is renowned for its production of this most luxurious vegetable and according to tradition, the season starts on St Georges Day and ends on Midsummers Day because local growers would “never cut beyond the midsummer bud”. The British Asparagus Festival takes place every year, celebrating the best asparagus in the world.

Our base for the tour is The Salford Hall Hotel, a fascinating Tudor Manor that has been lovingly restored, boasts lots of character and is ideally located in the picturesque Vale of Evesham. In the evenings you can relax in the oak-panelled rooms with a drink before enjoying dinner in the award-winning restaurant. All bedrooms are en suite with modern facilities. The hotel has ground floor rooms.

THURSDAY
We depart the Macclesfield area calling for morning coffee en route to Defford and Revills Farm Shop, where we meet our guide, have time for lunch and taste some locally grown asparagus. We then head off on our ‘Asparabus’ tour calling at The Fleece Inn at Bretforton for afternoon refreshments and a short talk about the pub’s history and connection with the famous vegetable. The Fleece is home to the legendary Asparagus Auctions which have taken place for decades. We then continue on to Abbots Salford and our hotel.

FRIDAY
After breakfast we take the short journey to Great Malvern and to the Great Malvern Spring Gardening Show. We aim to arrive as the show opens giving you most of the day to spend at leisure. Mid to late afternoon we join the motorway network and head for home, aiming to arrive in the Macclesfield area early evening.
