Cornwall: A Relaxing Luxury Break in Falmouth

Falmouth our base for the tour is Cornwall’s leading south coast resort and home to Cornwall’s maritime heritage. A flourishing port for over 400 years, today Falmouth is a bustling town with many attractions offering something for everyone and the perfect destination for a relaxing holiday.

An impressive 4* luxury hotel with a perfect view of an azure bay, the Royal Duchy Hotel is just yards from the safe sandy beaches and quaint alleyways of Falmouth. Set in beautifully manicured gardens the hotel has views from its spacious terrace that will take your breath away. With a wonderfully glamorous bar, we can also look forward to fine dining in the award winning restaurant. Right by the sea the hotel boasts all the facilities you could ask for, including a heated indoor pool, spa and wellness centre. The elegantly furnished en suite bedrooms are bright, modern and well equipped. The hotel has a lift.

SUNDAY
We depart Macclesfield calling for coffee en route to Congresbury and the brilliant garden centre where we call for lunch. We then continue on our journey south to Falmouth and our hotel.

MONDAY
Having enjoyed the morning at leisure, for the afternoon you have the option of visiting Godolphin medieval state. Wander around the, one of the most important historic gardens in Europe and explore the Leeds engine house and stack, the remains of the Godolphin family mine. Godolphin Hill on the south-westerly reaches of the estate has some of the best views in Cornwall looking out over St Ives Bay to the north and the famous St Michael’s Mount to the south. With a full afternoon at Godolphin giving you time to explore the grounds at leisure and perhaps partake of a Cornish cream tea in the tea room before we return to Falmouth. (NT members free, nonmembers £9.00).

TUESDAY
Taking the scenic route to the pretty seaside port of Portreath, we will stop for morning coffee before continuing along the coast to St Erth Station where we board the train for St Ives. One of the most scenic lines in Britain, come and enjoy spectacular views past the golden sands of Hayle, Towans and Carbis Bay before arriving in St Ives. There will be time for lunch and to meander around the quaint streets before we re-board the train for the journey back to St Erth, where the coach will be waiting to take you back to Falmouth and our hotel.

WEDNESDAY
A day at leisure to enjoy Falmouth. Why not take a stroll around the shops, visit the Maritime museum, sit and relax in the Hotel gardens with a cocktail or treat yourself to a massage in the spa?

THURSDAY
Firstly we visit the charming city of Truro with its quaint little market and to take in the sights. After an early lunch we head down to the quay to board the Enterprise II for a relaxing sail down the Fal River and back to Falmouth. The boat sails through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, passing Tudor castles, deep sided wooded valleys, and historic houses. There is also the chance of seeing the abundance of marine activity local to the area, this trip is perfect for enjoying the best bits of the Fal River. The coach will meet you at the quayside in Falmouth to take you on the short journey back to our hotel.

FRIDAY
This morning we visit the Cornish Seal Sanctuary for a guided tour. The sanctuary is a charity that rescues and rehabilitates grey seal pups from around the Cornish coast. Hear about dramatic rescues and meet the seal and sea lion characters whose individual stories are brought to life during our visit. We complete our tour with morning coffee and a Cornish cream scone.

SATURDAY
After breakfast we head for home calling en route for coffee and lunch. We aim to arrive in the Macclesfield area early evening.

Tour includes: 6 nights dinner bed and breakfast, return train trip to St Ives, boat trip from Truro and entrance to Cornish Seal Sanctuary with guided tour and refreshments.
