Staying at The Chichester Park Hotel
6 DAYS | 7th June 2020
Join us as we venture into one of the most visually stunning and historically rich regions of the United Kingdom. With Chichester as our base, we are perfectly placed to discover all on offer; once a roman city, Chichester boasted Georgian houses and a cathedral, and is surrounded by beautiful countryside, sandy beaches, and fishing villages.
The Chichester Park Hotel is situated on the outskirts of Chichester and features a stylish bistro, the Club bar, and the Seasons Restaurant. There is also a leisure club with an indoor swimming pool, sauna, spa pool, and steam room. The traditional bedrooms have a private bathroom, TV, WiFi and courtesy tray.
We depart Macclesfield and call for coffee en route to Bicester Village and Garden Centre where we will then stop for lunch. Continuing south to Chichester we make for our hotel.
Today we will enjoy a lovely guided tour, beginning with the stunning scenery of the Sussex South Downs then heading to Chichester where we will stop for lunch. We then conclude with a visit to Bosham, the wonderful Norman Church famously depicted in the Bayeux Tapestry.
Today there are two options of how to spend your time. After a leisurely breakfast we all venture to Portsmouth town to spend the morning exploring the array of sites on offer. For the afternoon you can then head to the seaside resort of Southsea; why not visit the brilliant WWII museum: The D-Day Story. Alternatively, stay in Portmouth for the full day and explore the historic dockyards situated within a working Naval Base, or why not try the Mary Rose Museum, the world famous ships HMS Victory and HMS Warrior, or take the 45 minute cruise around the harbour? (Tickets payable on the day or online in advance).
After breakfast we depart for a morning at the fascinating Weald and Downland Open Air and Living Museum. Set within 40 acres of the South Downs National Park there are over 50 historical buildings on display, from an Anglo-Saxon Hall House to an Edwardian tin church. For the afternoon we head to Chicester for a boat trip of the harbour and surrounding waters. Aboard retired lifeboat the ‘Wingate’ we will explore the seascape with its array of wildlife, with the chance of seeing the wonderful colony of local grey and harbour seals.
This morning we visit the English Martyrs Catholic Church in Goring to admire the Sistine Chapel reproduction; at a two thirds scale of the original we will also have an insightful talk. We then continue on to the pretty town of Arundel for lunch and a visit to Arundel castle; a monumental structure that still boasts some of its original Norman features.
Today we head for home calling at a garden centre for lunch and making an additional comfort stop en route and we aim to arrive early evening.
