With the festive season upon us why not join us for a short break bursting with Christmas delights? The famous town of Stratford Upon Avon hosts its highly acclaimed Victorian Christmas Market, with wonderful light displays, stalls selling beautiful wares and delicious food, live entertainment and period delights that all ages will enjoy. Stratford itself has so much to offer; as Shakespeare’s hometown there is an abundance of sites to visit, from Shakespeare’s Birthplace to the Royal Shakespeare Company Theatre where the likes of Sir Ian McKellen and Dame Judi Dench have trod the boards. We will also venture into the stunning landscape of the Cotswolds, taking in the beautiful countryside and villages as they celebrate this festive time of year. Our accommodation for our stay is the stylish Doubletree by Hilton just ten minutes walk from the town centre. A receiver of Trip Advisor’s Certificate of Excellence in 2019, this modern and comfortable hotel serves delectable cuisine from the bistro style menu at the Quills Restaurant, and the Bar is a lovely spot to unwind after a busy day. Each of the bedrooms is en suite with WiFi and a courtesy tray. There is also a lift.
We depart Macclesfield making a comfort stop en route to the famous town of Stratford Upon Avon. Today the town hosts its awardwinning Victorian Christmas Market where the stall holders dress in period costume, there is brilliant entertainment throughout, and even a traditional funfair complete with carousel. See the many street performers, take in the live music entertainment, and get all that Christmas shopping done early at the array of stalls. There is everything from children’s toys, and international cuisine, to arts and crafts. As we aim to arrive at the market just before lunch, there will be no excuse not to sample the culinary delights the market has to offer! Alternatively head to one of the many local restaurants or cafes, or why not venture to one of the famous attractions pertaining to the Nation’s Bard, Shakespeare’s Birthplace and Shakespeare’s New Place are but a short walk away.
Today we take the relaxing scenic route through Cotswolds villages as they prepare for the festive season. We will make a visit to St Lawrence’s Church in the riverside town of Evesham to admire their Christmas Tree Festival before continuing our journey through Broadway, Moreton in Marsh and down to Bourton on the Water where we stop for lunch. You will have time to stroll around the town centre with its shops adorned with Christmas cheer. Mid-afternoon we head for home, making a comfort stop en route we aim to arrive in Macclesfield early evening.
