Staying at the 4* Bull Hotel
3 DAYS | 15th August 2020
The Houses of Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Windsor and Runnymede; each of these locations played a crucial role in the history of the United Kingdom and democracy itself. With a fascinating audio guided tour of the Houses of Parliament, come and learn about history a thousand years in the making alongside modern day politics and stunning art and architecture. Our next stop is to Runnymede, the birthplace of modern democracy. This picturesque landscape beside the Thames was witness to King John’s historic sealing of the Magna Carta nearly 800 years ago, and today Runnymede is an ideal place to relax outdoors, and to pause and reflect on the history of the struggle for freedom. As well as a monument to the democratic legacy of the Magna Carta, you will find further memorials to John F. Kennedy and the Commonwealth Air Forces in this wonderful spot. Our next port of call is magnificent Windsor for a leisurely exploration of all on offer. The finale to our tour is a visit the State Apartments at Buckingham Palace to discover its many treasures and glorious state rooms.
The base for our tour is the 4* Bull Hotel situated in the charming town of Gerrards Cross. The hotel offers a modern bar, pleasant lounge area and restaurant. All bedrooms are en suite with modern facilities including TV, courtesy tea tray, and WiFi. The hotel has a lift.
We depart Macclesfield in the morning calling for coffee and lunch en route to The Houses of Parliament. On our audio guided tour we will explore famous rooms and discover more about the building’s fascinating history as well as its present day use. Having enjoyed time for tea in the café we will then board the coach for our journey to Gerrards Cross and our hotel for the next two nights.
Our visit today takes us firstly to Runnymede where we will begin with a short introductory talk. Late morning we will head to the fascinating town of Windsor where we will have time for lunch. The afternoon is yours to spend at leisure; why not visit the Castle, take a stroll into Eton or perhaps a boat trip on the Thames?
