With a fascinating audio guided tour of the Houses of Parliament, come and learn about history a thousand years in the making alongside modern day politics and stunning art and architecture. Our next stop is to Runnymede, the birthplace of modern democracy. Steep rocks form the dramatic back-drop to the Tattoo’s castle setting and when subtle lighting picks out the lone piper playing a lament from the ramparts, few in the audience fail to be moved by the atmosphere. This event has all the ingredients for a truly memorable evening, and is one not to be missed.

Historic Carlisle: Hadrian’s Wall & The Solway Firth

Staying at The Crown Hotel, Wetheral

4 DAYS | 25th August 2020

The ‘great border city’ of Carlisle is a vibrant place with 2,000 years of fascinating history. There is culture galore at the collection of museums, galleries and theatres. We also pay a visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall; stretching 73 miles from coast to coast, the famous landmark was built to guard the wild north-west frontier of the Roman Empire from the wilds of Scotland, and the remains of the forts, towers, and towns that once kept watch can still be seen. We also head to Solway Firth an area of Outstanding National Beauty. A step back in time with its own unique identity, this is the lesser explored yet breathtakingly beautiful part of Cumbria that has a rich and fascinating history.
