Staying at the 4* Bull Hotel
2 DAYS | 17th April 2020
The legend of Tutankhamun captured imaginations globally when in 1922 his tomb was unearthed by Lord Carnarvon and British explorer Howard Carter. An instant worldwide sensation, the public continues to be fascinated with the boy king and his burial chambers, as his was the only ancient Egyptian royal tomb ever found intact.
Our mini tour takes us to explore these ancient finds. We travel first to Highclere Castle and the seat of Lord Carnarvon otherwise known as Downton Abbey. We visit the Castle, gardens and the Egyptian Exhibition that the 8th Earl and Countess have curated to celebrate the 5th Earl’s great achievements.
Our second visit takes us to London and the Saatchi Gallery for an exhibition of the largest collection of King Tutankhamun’s treasures ever to travel out of Egypt. There are more than 150 original artefacts from Tutankhamun’s tomb on display, with 60 on their first journey outside of Egypt. Discover more about the legend of the Golden King before these historic treasures return to Cairo to be permanently housed with the rest of the collection at the Grand Egyptian Museum.
The base for our tour is the 4* Bull Hotel situated in the charming town of Gerrards Cross. The hotel offers a modern bar, pleasant lounge area and restaurant. All bedrooms are en suite with modern facilities including TV, courtesy tea tray, and WiFi. The hotel has a lift.
We depart the Macclesfield area and call for coffee en route to Highclere Castle where you will have ample time to explore the history of the castle, museum and gardens. Internationally famous for its role as the home of the Grantham family in ‘Downton Abbey’, fans of the show can see many familiar rooms and artefacts on display. Mid-afternoon we continue on to Gerrards Cross and our hotel. Dinner and evening is yours to spend at leisure.
After breakfast we head to London and the Saatchi Gallery for our visit to the Tutankhamun Exhibition. You will have free time to visit the exhibition, take a stroll through the gallery and have lunch before we board the coach and head for home. We make a comfort stop en route and aim to arrive in the Macclesfield area in the evening.
