Our base for the weekend is the Buckatree Hall, a renowned country house hotel set at the foot of the famous Wrekin Hill in Telford. With its own mature gardens and set beside a scenic lake and woodland The Buckatree Hall Hotel offers the perfect relaxing retreat. The hotel boasts the wonderful Lakeside restaurant and Landers Lounge and Bar and many of the wellappointed bedrooms enjoy scenic views of the hotel’s beautiful lake and garden. All bedrooms are en-suite with TV, telephone and courtesy tea tray.
We depart the Macclesfield area and call for morning coffee at Dobbies Garden Centre at Gailey. We then continue across country to Bridgnorth. You will have free time to stroll around the town, perhaps visit the small market and museum before we board the train for our scenic run on the Severn Valley Railway to Kidderminster. Be sure to have your cameras ready as we pass the Elephants and Antelope, the railway takes you right past the West Midlands Safari Park. We alight the train in Kidderminster where the coach will be waiting to meet you. We then take the short journey to the hotel. Dinner and evening at leisure.
Today we take the scenic route south, firstly to the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre where we stop for a browse and morning coffee. We then continue on to the pretty town of Tenbury Wells, otherwise known as The Town in the Orchard, as it celebrates the Mighty Apple with the one day event Applefest. There will be lots going on, apple displays, apple identification, apple juicing, stall holders selling arts and crafts, homemade goodies, entertainment, as well as plenty of food and drink.
After a leisurely breakfast we venture to the Ironbridge Gorge. Firstly to the Coalport China Museum to explore and morning coffee. We then take the short journey to Blists Hill Museum where costumed staff give a warm welcome and a fascinating insight into how life was lived in Victorian times. Exchange your money in the Bank, admire the goods in the grocers, bakery and sweetshop, find out about curious remedies in the chemist, and see the printer and candle maker in action. Mid-afternoon we board the coach once again for our journey home. We arrive in the Macclesfield area late afternoon/early evening.
