This tour offers you the chance to combine a memorable coach tour with a leisurely look at some of Scotland’s dramatic scenery by rail.Our tour includes a train journey across the beautiful and wild landscape of Rannoch Moor and a trip on the famous Jacobite steam train from Mallaig to Fort William, described as the greatest railway journey in the world.
Our main base for the tour is Fort William; the largest town in the Highlands and situated at the southern end of the Great Glen and lying in the shadow of Ben Nevis. The Imperial Hotel is a traditional style hotel situated in the heart of the town and just a short walk from the banks of Loch Linnhe. There is a pleasant lounge, two bars and the Blue dining room serving local and international cuisine. All bedrooms have ensuite facilities with TV and courtesy tea trays.
We depart Macclesfield calling for coffee and lunch en-route to Bannockburn for our first nights stay at The King Robert Hotel. A family run hotel, all bedrooms have en-suite facilities, TV and WiFi.
This morning we take the scenic route across and then up the side of Loch Lomond calling for coffee en-route to Crianlarich where we will have a light lunch before boarding the train for our journey over Rannoch Moor to Fort William and our base for the next four nights.
This morning we venture to Loch Ness, for a spot of famous monster spotting! We will call for coffee at Fort Augustus and then continue up the side of the Loch on to Urquhart Castle. You will have time to visit the Castle and visitors centre, a little shopping and then have lunch before we make our way down to the Loch side for our cruise back to Fort August where the coach will be waiting for our return to the hotel.
This morning we visit the Nevis Range for a trip on Britain’s only mountain cable car. At the top you will be treated to magnificent views of Fort William and beyond. There is also a café at the top for morning coffee. We return to Fort William for lunch and the afternoon at leisure.
This morning we take the scenic route to Mallaig where we have time for lunch and a stroll. Now for the highlight of our tour, we meet at the station early afternoon to board the famous Jacobite steam train for our journey to Fort William. This journey has been described by many, as not only one of the great railway journeys of the world but also one of the most scenic. After we return to our hotel.
After breakfast we head south calling for coffee and lunch e-route to arrive in the Macclesfield area early evening.
