Staying at the Hallmark Hotel Leyland

Our short break gives you the opportunity to enjoy this fabulous steam train journey without having to get up at the crack of dawn. We stay overnight close to where we board the train. We then embark on a beautiful scenic run on the very popular Dalesman steam locomotive. We travel through the Yorkshire Dales and over the roof of England with its great limestone peaks and deep valleys. The legendary Settle to Carlisle line is a masterpiece of Victorian engineering including the magnificent 24 arched viaduct at Ribblehead. Upon arrival in the border city of Carlisle there will be time for sightseeing. We arrive about 13.00 for a stop of up to two hours. You may choose to visit the castle, cathedral or perhaps visit the famous Tullie House Museum, all surrounded by great places to shop, eat or be entertained. We then board the steam train once again for our journey home. The coach will collect you at the end of your Steam journey and whisk you back to the Macclesfield area.
Our base for the tour is the Hallmark Hotel Leyland, located just a short journey from Leyland where we board the train. The hotel offers a friendly atmosphere, the Four Seasons restaurant, bar and lounge area and a health club with a large swimming pool, spa bath, sauna and steam room. All bedrooms feature a TV, tea and coffee making facilities and complimentary toiletries.
We depart Macclesfield calling for coffee enroute to Holker Hall and Gardens, magnificently situated close to Grange over Sands and the expanse of Morecambe Bay, the estate is set in exceptionally beautiful countryside and gardens that merge into parkland, framed by the Lakeland Hills. Time for lunch in the cafe and to visit the house and gardens before we take the short journey north to Haverthwaite where we board the steam train for a short journey on the Haverthwaite to Lakeside railway. We once again board the coach for our journey to Leyland and our hotel. Dinner and evening at leisure.
After breakfast we head for Blackburn railway station for 09:10 where we board our Train for this truly amazing journey on a 73 mile long main line track, more commonly known as the Settle to Carlisle Line. On the train you will be able to purchase drinks and snacks. The train is pulled by diesel locomotive to Hellifield and then the steam powered Dalesman takes over. We arrive in Carlisle around 13:00 you then have free time. Around 15:00 we board the train for our return journey. We alight the train in Blackburn at 19:35 where the coach will be waiting to whisk you off home. We should arrive in the Macclesfield area late evening.
