Snowdon Mountain Railway & Portmeirion

Staying at The Celtic Royal Hotel

3 DAYS | 30th August 2019

This delightful tour gives you the opportunity to experience the magic of Wales by both coach and train. A land of song, choirs, castles, Celtic connections, stunning countryside, and a coastline of outstanding natural beauty.

The Celtic Royal Hotel is situated just a ten minute gentle stroll from Caernarfon’s walled town, harbour and castle. The hotel features a brasserie, restaurant, lounge bar, leisure club with indoor pool, sauna and steam room and free WiFi. The bright and airy bedrooms all feature tea and coffee facilities, a TV, and a private bathroom with a hairdryer.

FRIDAY
We depart Macclesfield in the morning calling for coffee at Ruthin Craft Centre en route to Betws-y-coed. You will have time to visit the Snowdonia National Park Visitors Centre or the Conway Valley Railway Museum (entrance £1.00 approx.) or to simply have lunch and take a stroll. We then take the scenic route to Caernarfon and our hotel for the next two nights.

SATURDAY
This morning we take the short journey to Llanberis for our trip on the Snowdon Mountain Railway, the incredible journey to the rooftop of Wales. Hafod Eryri is the Visitor Centre at the Summit of Snowdon and there is a refreshment area selling snacks and drinks as well as a shop selling souvenirs. After our amazing train journey we will head back to Caernarfon for the remainder of the day.

SUNDAY
After a leisurely breakfast we venture to Portmeirion; set in stunning sub-tropical Italianate gardens, it was created by Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis from 1925 to 1976. He wanted to show how a naturally beautiful site could be developed without spoiling it. During our visit you can enjoy a complimentary guided walking tour, watch the audio-visual show and take a trip on the free land train tour of the Gwyllt woodlands. There are plenty of places for morning coffee and lunch. We depart mid-afternoon and head for home, taking the scenic route and make a comfort stop along the way. We aim to be back in the Macclesfield area early evening.
