Springtime in the Islands of Malta

Staying at St Paul’s Bay

8 DAYS | 28th April 2019

Our internal holiday this year takes us to the wonderful Island of Malta, just a leisurely three and a half hour flight from the UK. With its fantastic climate, beaches, diverse activities, tasty cuisine and 7,000 years of fascinating history, there is much to see and do.

Our base for our holiday is St Paul’s Bay, a traditional seaside town that has gradually developed into a popular holiday resort. The area is now filled with restaurants, cafés, and wine-bars, as well as a cinema, a casino and National Aquarium. Dotted with colourful boats, there is a pleasant walk along the Islets Promenade, as it runs along the coast of St. Paul’s Bay.

The all inclusive db San Antonio Hotel is set in the heart of St. Paul’s Bay and is only a stone’s throw away from the beach. This hotel combines traditional Moorish influences with a contemporary style, and luxuriously warm and welcoming interior. The hotel offers a choice of dining options, a relaxing pool, an indulgent Moroccan spa and a daily and evening entertainment programme. All bedrooms are air-conditioned, have an en-suite bathroom with shower, safety deposit box, European satellite TV, mini-fridge and mini-bar on request. The hotel also has a lift.

SUNDAY
We depart Macclesfield early morning for Manchester Airport and our flight to Malta. Upon arrival in Malta we will be met by a representative who will then transfer us to the db San Antonio Hotel, St Pauls Bay. Remainder of the day at leisure.

MONDAY
Our guided tour today takes us to the historic city of Valletta. Valletta was built by the Knights of St. John in 1565. During our part walking and part coach tour we will visit Barraka Gardens which offer stunning views of the Grand Harbour and magnificent fortifications. Everyday at noon the ‘Noon Gun Salut’ is fired from the lower part of the gardens, a spectacle not to be missed. You will then have free time for lunch and to explore at leisure. Why not take a walk down Merchants and Republic Streets where you can admire numerous historical buildings built by the Knights including the Auberges, the Grand Masters Palace and the St. John’s Cathedral. We return to the hotel mid-afternoon.

TUESDAY
A day for you to spend at leisure. Why not take a stroll along the promenade or relax in the sun with a cocktail or two. Tonight there is a fantastic firework display/competition taking place in Valletta over the Grand Harbour, the cost for the evening will be approx. £15.00 including return transport, if you would like to join the evening excursion please state at the time of booking.

WEDNESDAY
This morning we visit the Ta’Quali Village Craft Village which houses an array of artisans and their wares including locally made pottery, filigree, jewelry and decorative glass. We then continue on to the ‘silent city’ of Mdina, to walk the streets of this medieval town. Our guide will unravel its rich history and show us the city’s bastions from where a stunning panoramic view of the island can be seen. There will be free time in Mdina for lunch. We return to the hotel midafternoon.

THURSDAY
A full free day today, for you to explore. Why not take the local bus into Sliema and take a boat trip around Valletta Harbour, or perhaps take an excursion to the Islands of Gozo and Comino.

FRIDAY
Morning at leisure. For the afternoon we visit San Anton Gardens. These magnificent gardens are located in the grounds of the San Anton Palace, the official residence of the President of Malta. Spring is the best time to see the gardens with lots of beautiful flowers in bloom, as well as the majestic wandering peacocks with their colourful feathers.

SATURDAY
We complete our week with a little rest and relaxation – free day to do as you please. Why not relax by the pool or go for a stroll along the promenade.

SUNDAY
We depart the hotel after breakfast for our late morning flight back to Manchester where a Roy McCarthy Coach will meet us on arrival for the short journey back to Macclesfield.
