Staying at the Ibis Styles
7 DAYS | 16th September 2018
The Loire Valley is regarded as the centre of the French Renaissance, where Kings, Queens and Dukes produced the finest examples of art and culture now on offer. Over 300 years later, their legacy to us is some of the finest castles and gardens to be seen anywhere in the world. The Loire is also a fertile region fed by its great river, which has developed many of France’s bestknown wines such as Saumur, Muscadet and Vouvray, some of which we may sample.
Our base for the tour is Chinon, a picturesque and historic town in the heart of Touraine. Famous names such as Joan of Arc, King Henry II of England, King Charles VII of France and many more are associated with Chinon. Our hotel is situated, just a ten-minute walk from the medieval city in beautiful peaceful surroundings. The hotel has a restaurant, bar and leisure activities including a swimming pool, and all bedrooms are en-suite. The hotel also has a lift.
We depart the Macclesfield area in the morning calling for coffee and lunch en-route to Portsmouth, where we board the ferry for our crossing to Ouistreham. There will be opportunity to have dinner on board at your leisure, as we will arrive at our hotel at about 10.00pm. We spend the night at the Ibis Styles, Ouistreham. All bedrooms are en suite.
After breakfast we take the road heading south towards the Loire Valley calling en-route at Château de Vendeuvre where we have a light lunch and visit the Château and gardens. We then continue onto Chinon and our hotel.
Our tour today takes us west to scenic and ancient Saumur, famous for its heritage and imposing castle. We visit the Gratien et Meyer wine cellars for a tour and wine tasting.
Today is a free day in Chinon with time to visit the Château, take a leisurely lunch and perhaps visit one or two of the local vineyards either by taxi or on foot.
Today we make the short journey to the pretty little town of Azay-le-Rideau where we visit the château. After lunch we have a relaxing cruise on the Loire River from Rochecourbon and visit Château Gaudrelle Vineyard.
We head north to Ouistreham calling at Angers. You will have free time in Angers to take a browse around the city or perhaps visit the Cointreau Distillery. After an early lunch we continue with our journey north to Ouistreham, where we will spend the night at the Ibis Styles.
After an early breakfast we board the ferry for our crossing home. We take the motorway network north to arrive in Macclesfield in the evening.
