Staying at the Hallmark Hotel

3 DAYS | 14th October 2018

Charles Rennie Mackintosh (1868-1928) was an architect, designer and artist now celebrated around the world as one of the most significant talents of his time. In and around Glasgow is where he created his best-known work and where much of it still remains today. Our visit north incorporates a guided tour of the city taking in many sights and examples of his famous work, including visits to Scotland Street Museum, House of an Art Lover and Hill House.

Our base for the weekend is the strikingly contemporary Hallmark Hotel situated in a prime position at the heart of Glasgow, Scotland’s second city. The hotel boasts beautifully appointed bedrooms with en-suite facilities, TV, and courtesy tea trays. You can take a dip in the Waves Health and Leisure Club, enjoy a mouthwatering meal in the Brasserie restaurant, and round off the day relaxing in the lounge bar.

We depart Macclesfield calling for coffee en-route to the Scotland Street Museum. The essential destination for all Mackintosh enthusiasts and all those interested in the history of art. The museum was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh between 1903 and 1906. Late-afternoon we will continue on to the Hotel. You will have the evening at your leisure.

This morning we meet our Guide for a tour of Glasgow on the Mackintosh Trail with a visit to House of an Art Lover. The remainder of the day is at your leisure in Glasgow. Why not visit the Mackintosh Museum or the famous Willow Tea Rooms for afternoon tea.

This morning we make our final visit the famous, Hill House, considered to be Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s finest domestic creation. Sitting high above the Clyde, it is home to original Mackintosh furniture and interior design and also has attractive formal gardens designed recognisibly in his style. We are greeted with Tea/Coffee and shortbread and then have a private guided tour. After our visit we rejoin the motorway network and head south.
