Crete is the largest Greek island, located in the southern side of the Aegean sea and full of ancient treasures, splendid beaches, and landscapes that encompass everything from vibrant cities to dreamy villages. Travelling in May we hope to enjoy the warmer waters and beautiful wildflowers that can be spotted throughout the island’s natural attractions.

The 4* Grand Hotel is a pleasant and relaxing holiday resort with captivating views of the sea. Situated in a quiet area of Hersonissos the complex is just a short walk from a beach, several shops and bars. Guestrooms are air-conditioned and come equipped with a selection of amenities, including a satellite TV, hairdryer, safe and a balcony or terrace. The hotel also features four swimming pools with sun terraces, two restaurants, snack bar, evening entertainment, a fitness centre and a sauna, and tennis courts. Our board basis at the Grand is all inclusive to include breakfast, lunch, dinner, afternoon tea, snacks and all drinks.

We depart the Macclesfield area early in the morning and take the short journey to Manchester Airport for our morning flight to Crete. Upon arrival in Crete we will be met by a representative and board a coach for our transfer to Hersonissos and The Grand Hotel.

This morning we have a welcome meeting. We then board a land train for a tour of Hersonissos. Taking us through old Hersonissos and along the coast to see the stunning beaches.

A day to spend at your leisure, relax by the pool or on the beach, maybe visit Ychnostatis Open Air local natural history & culture museum.

Today we visit Heraklion and follow in the footsteps of long-ago Minoan kings on our excursions to Knossos the archaeological site of the Minoan Palace, the remains dating back to the 2nd century BC. We explore what were the royal quarters, storerooms and central court of the palace, the power base of Europe’s first civilization. After our visit we take the short journey into Heraklion, Crete’s capital where we have time for lunch before returning to the hotel.

A day at leisure.

Our excursion today takes us to the enchanting island of Spinalonga situated just off Crete’s north coast. We start with a visit to the colourful mainland village of Agios Nikolaos where we spend the morning with time for a stroll around the local market and for morning coffee. We then travel to the portside at Elounda where we take a short boat ride across to the rocky island of Spinalonga, site of an old Venetian fortress and it was also once a leper village with its buildings and streets that are preserved to this day. We return to the hotel in time for afternoon tea.

A day at leisure.

We depart today just before lunch and take the short journey to the airport for our flight home. A Roy McCarthy Coach will meet us at Manchester airport for the short journey home.

Tour includes: Return transfers to the airport, return flights to Crete, 7 nights at The Grand hotel on an all inclusive basis and excursions as above.
