Call The Midwife Mini-break

Staying at The Holiday Inn Hotel, Bexley

3 DAYS | 5th May 2018

Our weekend break takes us south where we have a guided tour of the East End of London to visit where the extremely popular Sunday night series ‘Call the Midwife’ is set. The following day we are greeted by our very own ‘midwife’ at Chatham Historic Dockyard as we explore the filming location of the BBC’s popular drama, we hear stories of what it’s like to be an extra on set and learn how the dockyard is magically transformed into 1950’s Poplar. We complete the tour with afternoon tea at Nonnatus House.

Our base for the tour is The Holiday Inn Hotel, Bexley. It is a modern hotel based around a traditional 1930’s red-brick built pub and is set in lovely grounds. The hotel boasts a bar, Traders restaurant and a small fitness room. All bedrooms are en-suite with modern facilities.

Saturday
We depart Macclesfield calling for coffee and lunch en-route to the East End of London where we meet our guide for a part-coach part-walking ‘Call the Midwife’ tour. We will explore the areas in which many of the stories really took place and see the real life Nonnatus House. Late afternoon we head to our hotel. Dinner and evening will be at leisure.

Sunday
Today we head for Chatham’s Historic Dockyard and the highlight of our weekend. We meet the Dockyards very own ‘midwife’ who takes us on a walking tour of the many sets and filming locations, we complete the tour with afternoon tea in the Commissioners House also known as Nonnatus House. You will then have the opportunity to stroll at leisure through the Dockyards vast range of exhibitions and historic ships and take time to enjoy the quiet peace of the beautiful Commissioner’s garden.

Monday
Today will be a relaxing day. After a leisurely breakfast we join the motorway network north and call at Coton Manor Gardens for a stroll through the bluebell woods and gardens. There will be ample time for lunch before continuing home. We make a quick comfort stop en-route and aim to arrive in the Macclesfield area early evening.
