Easter Time in the Chilterns

Staying at The Bull Hotel

4 DAYS | 30th March 2018

The Chilterns covers an area of 324 square miles of outstanding natural beauty; nationally protected, it contains some of the finest countryside in the UK. During our tour we explore several towns and hidden treasures and experience the quintessential rolling green countryside of the Chilterns.

Our base for the weekend is the 4* Bull Hotel situated in the charming town of Gerrards Cross. The hotel has recently undergone a refurbishment programme and now offers a modern bar, pleasant lounge area and super restaurant. All bedrooms are en-suite with modern facilities including TV, courtesy tea tray, and telephone. The hotel also has a lift.

We depart Macclesfield calling for coffee enroute to Waddesdon Manor, the magnificent house and grounds in the style of a 16th century French château, surrounded by views of the Chilterns Hills. The château was built by Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild in 1874 to entertain the time’s fashionistas and to house his collection of fine art. You can also step back in time in the Victorian style gardens with their ornate fountains and rare and exotic birds housed in the Roccoco style Aviary. There are several cafés for lunch or afternoon tea. (NT property members free non-members £14.00). Mid to late afternoon we continue south and on to our hotel.

This morning we meet our guide for a tour of the Chilterns making photo stops and calling for coffee and lunch en-route as we explore the delights of this area.

After a leisurely breakfast we venture to Marlow where we have time to stroll by the Thames and have morning coffee before boarding our boat for a trip down the Thames. The coach will meet us at the end of our cruise, we then continue on to Savill Gardens where we arrive in time for lunch. The afternoon will be spent strolling through the gardens, a chance to enjoy the spring flowers typical of this time of year.

We depart after breakfast taking the journey north to Chinnor for our trip on the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Heritage Railway, where morning coffee and an Easter bun will be served. Late morning, we board the coach and head for home making Royal Leamington Spa our lunch stop. Mid-afternoon we rejoin the motorway network, make a quick comfort stop en-route and aim to arrive in the Macclesfield area late afternoon.
