Staying at The Bedford Swan Hotel
2 DAYS | 5th August 2018
Our short break gives you the opportunity to visit Bletchley Park; known as ‘Station X’ it was the centre of the World War II Enigma code-breaking operation, and is today regarded as the birthplace of modern computing and communications. We also visit the Shuttleworth Collection Airshow, with vintage motors on display, flying demonstrations, as well as aircraft from the Shuttleworth Collection. The museum and hangers will be open and there will be free access to the house for viewing and free tours around the Swiss Garden. All this together with re-enactors and a chance to chat with the pilots makes for an excellent visit.
Our base for the overnight stay is the The Bedford Swan Hotel, a traditional style hotel, situated in Bedford town centre by the side of the River Ouse. Each bedroom is equipped with free WIFI, TV and courtesy tea tray. The hotel also boasts a Roman style indoor pool, relaxing terrace bar and the River Room restaurant for breakfast and dinner.
We leave Macclesfield calling for coffee en-route to Old Warden for the Shuttleworth Collection and Air Show. (Please do not forget to bring your own folding chair with you). There will be lots of activities going on throughout the day and plenty of places to buy a bite to eat should you not want to bring a picnic. Late afternoon we board the coach for the short journey to our hotel.
After a leisurely breakfast we head for Bletchley Park, upon arrival each passenger is given a multi-media guide allowing you to visit all the sights at leisure. There are also guided tours that you can book on upon arrival. There are several cafés where you can buy coffee and lunch. Mid-afternoon we head for home. We join the motorway network for our journey north and aim to arrive in the Macclesfield area early evening.
