Brooklands & The Motor Car

Staying at the 4* Bull Hotel

3 DAYS | 18th August 2018
By special request we are once again visiting the fantastic Museum of Brooklands – the birthplace of British motorsport and aviation. Many world records were set here and many aviation firsts are also associated with the site. The museum boasts a host of attractions to include a wide range of motoring and aviation exhibits, motorcycles, and bicycles as well as a unique collection of aircraft. During our short break we also visit the Transport Museum in Coventry and Nuffield Place, the home of one of the most remarkable men of the 20th century, Lord Nuffield of Morris Minor Fame.

Our base for the weekend is the 4* Bull Hotel situated in the charming town of Gerrards Cross. The hotel offers a modern bar, pleasant lounge area and excellent restaurant. All bedrooms are en-suite with modern facilities including TV, courtesy tea tray, trouser press and telephone. The hotel also has a lift.

We depart Macclesfield heading south; making a quick comfort stop en-route to Coventry where you have the option of visiting the amazing Transport Museum or the Cathedral and shops. Mid-afternoon we re-join the motorway network taking us to Gerrards Cross and our base for the next two nights.

In the morning we venture to the Brooklands Museum. We start with a 20 minute introduction and orientation followed by morning coffee and cake. The remainder of the day is yours to explore the site at leisure and at your own pace.

After a relaxing breakfast we board the coach taking the route north to Nuffield Place. The house reveals the surprisingly everyday lives of Lord Nuffield, founder of the Morris Motor Company, and his wife. Their home and personal possessions are just as they left them, the decor and furnishings intact, from the comfortable sitting room with a small black and white TV, to Lord Nuffield’s humble bedroom with a secret built-in workshop. This intimate home exudes the tastes and interests of its remarkable owner. We have a tour of the house, time to visit the garden and have lunch before continuing our journey home. We make a quick comfort stop en-route and aim to arrive in the Macclesfield area early evening.

Tour includes: Luxury coach travel throughout, 2 nights dinner bed and breakfast, entrance to Brooklands with coffee and cake, Nuffield Place. Coventry Transport museum is free.
