May Day Trips

Monday 4th

Shibden Hall & Gentleman Jack

The quaint town of Hebden Bridge is famous for its bohemian streetscape where the writers and artists of the 70’s and 80’s who flocked to the town left their mark. With a morning for you to enjoy, why not wander around the delightful town centre and have an early lunch in one of the many cafés? For the afternoon we make our way to Shibden Hall; dating back to 1420, there is much to learn about the lives of the people who lived and worked there, and about the Hall’s role in the BBC drama ‘Gentleman Jack’. Written by Sally Wainwright, the series showcased the dynamic life of Anne Lister who lived in the Hall in the late 18th and early 19th century. You will have ample time to see the house, beautifully restored gardens, workshops and the carriage collection. (Inc. entrance).

Taking the scenic route we call at Meerbrook Reservoir to enjoy it’s naturally stunning surroundings for morning coffee. You will have time for lunch and to stroll around the village. Why not take time to visit Tissington Hall where they offer a guided tour? Built in 1609 the house has been in the same family for over 500 years and has a fascinating story to tell. Entrance to the hall not included and payable on the day.
