Halifax and The Piece Hall

We make a comfort stop en route to the industrially historical town of Halifax. Standing proud in its centre, the Piece Hall is a Grade I listed building dating from 1779 that was built as a cloth hall for the trading of ‘pieces’ of cloth. Upon arrival we will have a tour by a knowledgeable heritage guide who will lead us on a journey of discovery; now the only surviving building of its kind anywhere in the UK there are many fascinating stories to be told, ranging from the Georgian period right through to the current day. You will then have free time to explore the town and have lunch. (Inc. guided tour).

Saturday 4th

A Daytrip to Whitby in Spring

Come with us and discover the jewel in the crown of Yorkshire’s coast; the famous town of Whitby boasts an historic fishing harbour, haunting abbey, quaint narrow streets full of independent shops, as well as fantastic spots for fish and chips. We arrive in time for lunch and then you have the afternoon at leisure to stroll through the town, why not take a trip on the open top bus or perhaps a cruise around the harbour?

Tuesday 7th

Ruthin & A Cream Tea in the Clouds

Making a quick coffee stop en route, we head to the wonderful town of Ruthin for the morning. Like nowhere else in Wales, this surprising little town is layered with centuries of history and set in one of the most beautiful landscapes in Britain. Similarly, you will find elegant 21st century dining, stylish independent shops and a great little museum. In the afternoon we then take the beautiful run over the Horseshoe Pass; stopping for a cream tea in the Ponderosa Café, you will also have time to visit the Shop in the Clouds before continuing our scenic run home. Thursday 9th

Sudbury Hall & The Museum of Childhood

Our excursion today starts with a visit to Ashbourne where we make our coffee stop. We then continue on to Sudbury Hall and the Museum of Childhood; two totally different destinations sitting side by side, they are both equally fascinating. The country home of the Vernon family, Sudbury Hall is a Grade I listed delight of 17th-century craftsmanship. Similarly, the Museum of Childhood sparks joy in all ages, and the many displays explore our cultural social history and unearth the most nostalgic of childhood memories. You will have ample time to visit both places and have lunch. (NT members free, non-members £17.50 approx.).

Saturday 11th

Exploring the Yorkshire Dales

Heading first on the motorway we make our way north calling for a quick coffee as we go. Then we take the more picturesque route through the Yorkshire Dales, passing the pretty village of Sedbergh and across Garsdale Head to the delightful village of Hawes. There will be time for lunch in one of the many lovely pubs and cafés, as well as chance to visit the famous Wensleydale Creamery Cheese Shop before we continue our scenic journey. As we head for home we pass Widdale Fell and Ribble Head, then stop in Settle for an afternoon cuppa.

Tuesday 14th

The Welsh Highland Railway

Calling for coffee en route, today we venture to Porthmadog and arrive in time for both lunch and a stroll. Then it is all aboard The Welsh Highland Railway for a two hour ride coast to coast through the dramatic scenery of Snowdonia and Caernarfon. With stunning views that change constantly as the train twists and turns through the landscape, this really is a trip not to be missed! Light refreshments are served on board and the coach will collect you at Caernarfon for the journey home. (Inc. single ticket).

Thursday 16th

Ormskirk Market & Southport

Join us as we make our way to the famous Ormskirk market; one of the country’s oldest and most traditional street markets held in the lanes around the iconic clock tower, there are bargains galore on the wide range of stalls. For the afternoon we head to Southport with ample time to wander around this beautiful seaside town with its parks, gardens, pier and shops.

Tuesday 21st

Springtime Derbyshire Dawdle

Taking the scenic route, we venture to the tranquil calm of Carsington Water. Located in the heart of Derbyshire, you will find shops, a cafe, a visitors’ centre and wonderful waterside walks at this unique reservoir. After enjoying free time for a browse and lunch, we then continue on our scenic run heading through the grounds of Chatsworth to Chatsworth Farm Shop where we call for an afternoon cuppa. We then head for home taking in the stunning countryside as we go.

Thursday 23rd

Discovering Victoria Baths

We begin our day at Victoria Baths with morning coffee, then head out on a guided tour of this fascinating building. When it opened in 1906 it was described as “the most splendid municipal bathing institution in the country”, and though closed and left empty for a decade, in 2003 it won the first series of the BBC’s ‘Restoration’ programme. The building was chosen by a public phone-vote from a short-list of ten buildings in danger of dereliction in the UK, and is now an ongoing project. All will be revealed on our guided tour of this splendid Grade II listed building. After our tour we complete our day out with a visit to Notcutts Garden Centre where we will stop for lunch and a browse. (Inc. tour, tea/coffee and biscuits).

Saturday 25th

Harrogate Spring Flower Show or Harrogate for Shopping

A day of your choosing, enjoy either a shopping adventure in Harrogate or join us as we head to the Harrogate Spring Flower Show. Widely regarded as the UK’s biggest and most prestigious independent gardening event, there are beautiful show gardens on display, over 100 leading plant nurseries in attendance, a floral art marquee, the kitchen garden, and in the cookery theatre chefs demonstrate lots of ideas for turning fresh produce into delicious dishes. There really is something for everyone on this excellent day out!

Thursday 30th

A Day in the Lakes

Having made a quick coffee stop en route, today we make our way north to the beautiful lakeside town of Bowness on Windermere. There is lots of things to see and do in this famous town; why not visit the Beatrix Potter Exhibition, take a cruise on the Lake, browse the local shops, simply enjoy some leisurely dining in one of the many independently owned eateries, or perhaps visit the new Windermere Jetty, a spectacular new museum that showcases the sights, smells and sounds of life on the lake. The choice is yours!
