Saturday 1st

Rutland England’s Smallest County

We venture to England’s smallest county, Rutland. Stopping for coffee en-route we head for Oakham the county town of Rutland. There will be time for lunch and to visit the castle or museum. We then take the short journey to Rutland Water where we have a cruise on the Rutland Belle, a 45 minute circular tour with a commentary telling you all about the area. There will be time for a cuppa or an ice cream before we head for home. (Inc. cruise). N.B. This excursion runs in conjunction with Barnsdale Gardens.

Saturday 1st

Barnsdale Gardens

Stopping for coffee en-route we head for Oakham, the county town of Rutland, and to Barnsdale to see Geoff Hamilton’s Gardens. With 38 individual gardens in an eight-acre site there is also an excellent tea room where we will have time for lunch. There is plenty to see and do whether you are a keen gardener, a beginner, or simply looking for a lovely day out. We head for home mid-afternoon and make a quick comfort stop en-route. (Inc. entrance). N.B. This excursion runs in conjunction with Rutland.

Monday 3rd

Stream in the Sky & Llangollen

This excursion takes us to the little Welsh town of Llangollen. We will have free time for lunch and a wander before we board a narrowboat for a 45 minute trip on the Llangollen Canal. Join us and experience one of the most spectacular and scenic canals in Britain. Known as the ‘Stream in the Sky’, it travels over Thomas Telford’s famous Pontcysyllte aqueduct, 126 feet above the floor of the River Dee Valley. We then return to the canal side café for a Welsh Cream Tea. (Inc. boat trip and cream tea)

Saturday 8th

Cruising the Manchester Ship Canal: from Liverpool to Manchester

Our journey by boat on the Manchester Ship Canal starts from Liverpool and travels the 35 miles of the canal. We will enjoy spectacular scenery and a lively commentary along the way, telling the history of the waterway and how it has shaped Manchester and the Northwest. You will be taken through locks and bridges that have remained largely unchanged since their construction 100 years ago, and you will see some of the region’s most stunning architectural and natural sights. The coach will drop you off in Liverpool at the beginning of the journey, collect you in Manchester at the end of the journey, and then return you to the Macclesfield area. There is a small café on board but why not take a picnic? (Inc. cruise)

Tuesday 18th

A Derbyshire Day Out During Well Dressing Time

Calling for morning coffee at Tittesworth Reservoir, we then continue on to Hartington where we stop for lunch. There are several cafes and pubs on offer or take full advantage of the views with your own picnic. We then make the short journey to the pretty riverside village of Ashford-in-the-Water for their annual well dressing and flower festival in the church. You will have time to stroll around the village and perhaps afternoon tea before we take the scenic journey home.

Thursday 27th

Trentham Gardens for the day

By special request this year we have a dedicated trip to Trentham Estate to visit the wonderful gardens. Enjoy a full day to explore the gardens, garden centre and shopping village. See the famous Italian Gardens, Rivers of Grass, Floral Labyrinth, Capability Brown’s mile-long Trentham Lake as well as the fairy trail. There is a selection of cafés and restaurants at the estate to tempt your taste buds. (Inc. entrance to the gardens)
