Cruising the Manchester Ship Canal – from Liverpool to Manchester

Our journey by boat on the Manchester Ship Canal starts from Liverpool and travels the 35 miles of the canal. We will enjoy spectacular scenery and a lively commentary along the way, telling the history of the waterway and how it has shaped Manchester and the Northwest. You will be taken through locks and bridges that have remained largely unchanged since their construction 100 years ago, and you will see some of the region’s most stunning architectural and natural sights. The coach will drop off in Liverpool at the beginning of the journey and collect you in Manchester at the end of the journey and then return you to the Macclesfield area. There is a small café on board but why not take a picnic with you. (Inc. cruise)

Wednesday 8th

‘Stream In The Sky’ & Llangollen

Our excursion takes us to the little Welsh town of Llangollen. We have free time for lunch and a meander before we board a narrowboat for a 45 minute trip on the Llangollen Canal. One of the most spectacular and scenic canals in Britain it is known as the ‘stream in the sky’ as it travels over Thomas Telford’s famous Pontcysyllte aqueduct, which is 1126 feet above the floor of the River Dee Valley. We then return to their canal side café for a Welsh Cream Tea. (Inc. boat trip and cream tea)

Sunday 12th

A Day Trip to Whitby

Come with us and discover the jewel in the crown of Yorkshire’s coast: Whitby, this famous place boasts an historic fishing harbour, haunting abbey, quaint narrow streets full of shops filled with curios and antiques, as well as fantastic fish and chip shops. We arrive in time for lunch and then you have the afternoon at leisure to stroll through the town, why not take a trip on the open top bus or perhaps a cruise around the harbour.

Tuesday 14th

RAF Cosford with a Guided Tour

Firstly, we call for coffee en-route to RAF Museum at Cosford, a museum dedicated to the history of aviation and the Royal Air Force. Situated next to an active airfield, this is the only place in the Midlands where you can get close to so many breath taking aircraft free of charge. Upon arrival we are met by a guide for our tour that will take you through the wartime hangars with its collections of Warplanes, Transport and the Test Flight collections. There will be free time for a late lunch and the afternoon to explore at leisure. (Inc. guided tour). This day trip runs in conjunction with Attingham Park.

Tuesday 14th

National Trust Attingham Park

We begin our day calling for coffee en-route to Attingham Park, a beautiful 18th century mansion and estate shaped by a story of love and neglect. Built for the first Lord Berwick in 1785, Attingham Hall and its stunning parkland were owned by one family for more than 160 years. As their fortunes rose and fell they proved themselves to be spenders, savers and saviours – providing a fascinating story of love and neglect whose mark still stands in Attingham’s rooms today. A particular unique feature are the contrasting rooms in the masculine and feminine sides of the mansion, as well as the tranquil space of the walled garden. (A NT Property entrance for members free non-members £11.80 payable on the day). This day trip runs in conjunction with RAF Cosford trip.

Southport or Southport Flower Show

We head to Southport where you have the choice of visiting the fabulous Flower Show or spending the day shopping in the many local shops or perhaps take a stroll through the gardens. The flower show has lots to offer from fabulous floral displays, show gardens to great ideas. There is also two theatres with the nations most loved gardeners and chefs. The choice is yours!

Monday 20th

Chester in Summer with a Relaxing Afternoon Tea Cruise

We spend the day in Chester with time for shopping and sightseeing. At 3.00p.m. we take the short journey to the Mill Hotel where we board the L’Eau-T Cuisine Broad-Beam Restaurant Cruiser for relaxing afternoon tea, served whilst sailing along the Shropshire Union Canal.

Thursday 23rd

Middleport Pottery & the Poppies Weeping Window

Stoke-on-Trent is officially recognized as the World Capital of Ceramics. Our visit today takes us to Middleport Pottery’s historic Grade II listed site that has recently undergone a three year refurbishment programme. The site is now thriving once again and contains the Burleigh Factory, a visitors centre, tea rooms, shop, activity areas and workshops. Middleport Pottery has been chosen for a Poppies Weeping Window with its cascade of several thousand handmade ceramic poppies due to its connections with the first world war. Upon arrival we start with time for morning coffee followed by a guided tour of the factory, there are some steps but also a lift for the not so able. We then have time to visit the shop, visitors centre and to admire the Weeping Window of Poppies before we head off to the Potteries Shopping Centre where we will spend the afternoon. Sunday 26th

Welsh Wanderer Tour

Our visit today takes us to a Garden Centre for morning coffee before continuing through the beautiful Welsh countryside and on to Betws-y-Coed in time for lunch. After a leisurely lunch we continue down the Conwy valley to spend the afternoon in Rhos on Sea where we have time for a stroll along the prom and an ice cream. We then head for home. A lovely relaxing and scenic day out.

Tuesday 28th

Clitheroe & Browsholme Hall

Calling for coffee en-route we arrive in the historic market town of Clitheroe in time for lunch. You can explore the array of stalls or why not visit Clitheroe Castle, said to be the smallest Norman Castle in England. After lunch we enjoy the short journey to Browsholme Hall, a Grade I listed house with a pre-eminent collection of historically associated antiques, paintings and furniture, set within the Forest of Bowland. We will have a guided tour of the house followed by a cream tea. (Inc. entrance & cream tea)

Thursday 30th

The Barbara Hepworth Gallery & Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Firstly we venture to Wakefield with a quick coffee stop en-route to The Barbara Hepworth Gallery. There will be ample time to stroll around the gallery and have lunch. Our return journey takes us via the Yorkshire Sculpture Park where we stop to admire the sculptures and have afternoon tea. (Entrances are both free)
